Minimizing Oral Complications

during Cancer Treatments

It is estimated that 1 out of every 3 Americans will have cancer in their lifetime. This can be a stressful time for patients physically, mentally, and emotionally. We show our patients the show our patients the same level of care and compassion we would want shown to a family member. Our goal is to provide our patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation the best dental care and education to ensure successful oncology treatments, reduction of infection and to keep the teeth healthy during and after treatments.

Visiting a dentist throughout cancer treatments helps patients minimize the oral side effects from treatments and complications from possible dental infections. We meet with patients initially to gather radiographs, measure gums and rule out infection. We also create an individiualized care program for our patients based on their diet, physical abilities, specific oncology treatment, oral care needs and any oral side effects of chemo or radiation he/she may be experiencing. We provide the patient with a written oral care plan to make home-care easy.

If you or a loved one is going through oncology treatments and would like to know how to care for your mouth or products to treat dry mouth, please view the video below, created by one of our hygienists.
